In October 2000 I spent a week in New York with my wife and some friends en route to a wedding in Pennsylvania.

The vibrance, grit and sublime power of the Manhatten skyline can't fail to impress any visitor and on our return
many drawings and photographs were pinned to my studio wall awaiting a catalyst.

Along with the world I had watched in horror at the terrorist attacks on September 11th 2001
and a week afterwards started work on these paintings.

I see them as a small testimony to the spirit of New York and its people.
